Salt Lake City 5K

We are trying to live a much more active lifestyle, so in addition to our everyday activities, we decided to set a goal to run the 5K as a family.  It was really great bonding time for the kids and I to set out in the evening for a 3 mile run during our "training". No, we didn't leave dad out, he just gets home so late these days that he fit in his trainig when he could - usually on the treadmill.  We woke up at 5 a.m. the morning of the run to find that it was raining cats and dogs outside - and I might add COLD!  But we did it!  The kids beat me with a time of 37:00 minutes, I rolled in at 39:00 and Brett beat his goal of under 30:00!  After the run we all gathered at IHOP for a tasty breakfast...and to figure out our next run, which will be the Color Run in August!

A few other notes...

Colton has picked up skiing as a winter sport.  He has a group of friends that he really enjoys going with and has even going with Uncle Bri.  He is such a sporty kid and picks up all sports easily!
Alex brought home a new pet from school today...it is a mealworm (named Alec- so it's close to his own name).  We are supposed to keep it alive and watch it transform into the different stages of it's lifecycle.  He is so very excited!  Today, it watched him eat lunch, but I had to draw the line of having it in the front room on the couch enjoying some afternoon toonies:)  We are planning on making sure it stays in the kitchen, in its little plastic container!
A lone Easter shot...Easter morning the kids went on a scavenger hunt that the Easter Bunny designed.  It sent them all over the house and backyard looking for clues.  They finally found the basket filled with movies, and candy!

Biking!

We LOVE to go on bike rides in the Spring, Summer and Fall months, and are so lucky to live just down the street from the Jordan River Parkway - which leads to all kinds of trails and adventures.  We usually take off with dad pulling Alex and the rest of us following, which led to a very intense workout for dad, and the rest of us trying to keep pace.  Now, we have some exciting news! This Spring Alex learned how to ride his bike and it has been really exciting. He has been practicing his falls (gracefully), learning how to start and stop by himself and almost has it mastered.  Now, he has all kinds of bike adventures all planned out in his mind for the upcoming months!
