Happy Birthday Colton

Another one bites the dust!  Colton is now a TWEEN, our middlest is now 12 years old and showing every bit of it!  Last night we went downstairs to mark his measurements on the wall and he has grown an inch in the last few months, but his weight stayed exactly the same (which is surprising, considering how much he DEVOURS!).  Colton regularly eats 3 packets of oatmeal for breakfast, and then right before school sometimes makes a smoothie.  He is always hungry and rummaging around for a snack, and licking everything clean at dinner.  I am not sure where he puts it all.

Colton is REALLY excited to go into the YM program, as he has been hearing stories of all the fun activities from his besties the last few months.  He is going to be ordained over Easter weekend by Grandpa Walt and is really excited about it, although he is a little nervous to pass the sacrament for the first few times.

He is keeping busy with school, where he is an amazing student and is always very responsible about staying on top of his work.  He still is a math lover and comes home every night excited to share the problems that he has learned how to solve or some crazy science fact that he tries to stump us with.  Colton is also still playing basketball and baseball and has spent some time with friends skiing at a few different resorts this winter. We bought him skis for Christmas and by February he had already outgrown the boots, and we had to buy him another pair!  Colt is a very mild mannered kid and can find fun in pretty much anything, whether playing with friends, making forts with his brother, or finding jokes on Pinterest with McKaleigh.  He is a positive example of a well rounded kid...with a very bright future!

The Big Crash!

We were involved in a pretty big accident the other night.  I am so glad that McKaleigh and I were the only passengers.  The short story is this:  We were on our way to find some bathing suits, coming from one of McKaleigh's volleyball games.  It was a really close loss and McKaleigh was kind of sad that her last hit kind of added to the loss of the game.  We were stopped at a red light when all of a sudden we were hit.  It was loud, there was glass all over from the back windows shattering, and there was smoke from the impact.  We were rear ended by an 18 year old kid in a very large Dodge Ram.  In case you were wondering, we are doing just fine.  We both had a few days of soreness and some aches, but we were lucky and our old minivan will have to get a pretty big face lift!

Now, on the bright side...McKaleigh now knows what to do when involved in an accident.  She know what paperwork to give out, and how to fill out a police report (which might come in handy since she will be driving in less than a year!).  And, the biggest payoff is our rental.  We went from driving our minivan (which I do love).  To this big beast, an Infiniti qx56 - which is AWESOME!  Alex sings songs about it when we drive it to school, Colton loves showing it off to his friends and I feel like a high roller driving down the streets, but alas, it has to go back to the rental company in 2 weeks - but for that time, we are living large!
