Sledding!

As most of you know, Winter Weather has arrived in the Salt Lake Valley. We had been waiting and waiting for the snow to come - mainly because we have a great sled hill going to waste! What is so great about this hill? Well, it is small enough to avoid any massive injuries yet big enough to build a small jump and pick up speed, and it is close to home. The kids can walk over there with there sleds, and if I look close enough, I can see them from the deck. Here is everyone all suited up and ready to go.Here we have a close up of Alex - his first experience with a sled. He was just fine sitting there. You can see McKaleigh (in her pink hat) and Colton running up the hill, in the background.
Here is daddy pulling Alex along...very slowly. He had a hard time holding the handles with his gloves and fell off. I thought that would be the end of his snow experience, but he was a trooper!
He decided to take a turn with the pulling. This brought his great Joy! He loved toting the empty sled around the snow.
Here is our McKay, off in the distance. She was very proud of herself for going off the jump that some local snowboarding boys had made.
And here is our Colt, heading down the hill. The kids are just heavy enough this year to make it all the way down from the top.
I think that this is one of my favorites...Alex just wanted to take a short walk with his dad, and Brett was happy to head down the street with him!
We decided to roll the dice and try letting McKaleigh take Alex halfway down the big hill. This was either going to be a disaster or turn out OK...
It looks like both participants had a great time! Whew!

Christmas Traditions

Every family has traditions they enjoy right? Otherwise they would not be carried on year after year. Our family has a Christmas Gingerbread House building tradition. Every year we get a gingerbread house kit, and painstakingly decide how to put the house together, where to place the candy, ect. This year Grandma Deb brought us two options. A Christmas House AND Tree. Those of you that know me, also know that I do not participate in this activity - It is a daddy/children tradition. Why you may ask? I do not have the patience to wait for icing to dry, candy placement decisions to be made, and messes to be cleaned up. I enjoy sitting by and watching the event, knowing that I do not have to do a thing, from setup to cleanup! Here are the kids and daddy, deciding which option to choose. They went with the Christmas Tree.Alex was quite upset that he did not get to eat any of the pieces right away. We thought he might enjoy holding the box, but were wrong!
We were able to appease him with some of the candy that would later be used to decorate the tree.
Here are daddy and McKaleigh trying to decide where to put the frosting on her part of the tree. It was divied up into sections, so McKaleigh, Colton, and daddy got to decorate their own portion. My honor was putting the star on the top...just right!
Here is Colton pointing out right where he wanted his frosting and decorations to go. My husband has the patience of a Saint in these situations!
Here it is...the finished product. If you are wondering what is going to happen to the Christmas House, it was decided that we take it up to Oregon so that Grandma Cindy, Grandpa and Bri can join in the fun!

Annual Temple Square Christmas Lights Visit

Every year we like to go downtown and take the kids to see the lights at Temple Square and then have a warm slice of pie and hot chocolate. One of the most exciting parts of this excursion is the Trax Train ride. We go down to the station and buy a ticket and then the kids, along with Brett, decide which stop we will get off on (like it ever changes) and how long the train ride will take. It was only a 26 minute train ride, but seemed like an eternity! I guess I should start to prepare for that 2 hour plane ride to Portland! Once we got off the train, everyone was excited to see all of the lights. They are pretty spectacular, and we got there just in time to see the Nativity Story being acted out. Although the animals are plaster, Alex was so excited to see the sheep and baaaed at them throught our trek.
Mommy and Daddy got to have a quiet moment under the foliage (and I mean moment) before we continued on our journey.
Mckaleigh and Colton chose an enormous piece of NY Cheesecake with strawberries, and here is what the plate looked like when they finished!

Alex, Daddy and I all shared a piece of Hot Fudge Lava Cake. He really enjoyed sharing with his dad!

Alex, Daddy and I all went to visit Gardner Village, a small outdoor shopping area, which was decorated for the Holiday Season. There were Elves throughout the village hanging off of the buildings, ice skating, decorating, and making their Naughty and Nice Lists. I think that Alex is wondering which list he is on!
Maybe he decided he is on the Nice List, although Mommy wonders sometimes!

It's Beginning To Look Alot Like Christmas!

To coin a phrase from one of the best Holiday songs ever, "its beginning to look alot like Christmas." Our family is so excited that the Christmas Holiday season is upon us, and the kids are literally counting the days until we go to Grandma Cindy's (and Grandpa's) house for the Holiday. At this time of year, I am reminded of the importance of family. As a child, our house never lacked the presence of extended famliy members (visiting or living), and as an adult, away from my extended family, I find that I miss the chaos of it all. I too am looking forward to spending the season with those I hold dear to my heart. One of my favorite phrases from that old Dr. Seuss Grinch goes something like "Mabe Christmas doesn't come from a store, maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more." I would like to share a few of my Christmas favorites...

1-My Favorite part of the Christmas story is when the shepherds are watching their flocks, and are told of the birth of Christ.
2-My Favorite Christmas gift I ever gave was to a family that we chose each year to shop and give to.
3-My Favorite Christmas ever was this year, with my husband and all of our children, together with my family
4-My Favorite Christmas meal is funeral potatoes and ham (with Chrismas Ribbon Jello)
5-I Love Christmas because it is so rare that you see people throughout the world come together to celebrate - no matter the reason!

We would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas Holiday and a wonderful New Year!
